ACT (a community theatre): Rainbow Valley—An Island Musical

Guild, The

Saturday, November 17, 2018, 07:30pm

As PEI’s professional theatrical season draws to a close, the season for community theatre is just getting started. This year will see the introduction of ACT’s new musical play, Rainbow Valley, based on the book of the same title by L. M. Montgomery, and adapted for the stage by Hank Stinson.

Director Hank Stinson describes the story: “There are many stories in Rainbow Valley. I’ve decided to focus this play on the story of the new minister, his children, and the people they most directly encounter in a small community where the past rules the present. Life presents them with gifts of opportunity and they must decide whether these ‘gifts’ are a blessing or a curse. The children have no problem knowing which is which. The adults, on the other hand, have history which weighs them down, makes receiving these gifts much more difficult. And yet, there is a moment in time when the gift received, (whether in thought, word or action,) will bring them happiness.”

ACT (a community theatre) is a community based, amateur theatre association on PEI that fosters and encourages amateur theatre. Rainbow Valley will be the latest in ACT’s yearly tradition of musicals. The show features a young company comprised of Hannah McGaughey, Joe Moak, Brooklyn Riley, George Woods, Fiona Moak, Jame Ronahan, Gracie MacBeth, Jace MacPherson, and Kaili Johnston. Also starring Colin Hood, Samantha Bruce, Corin McFadden, and Shelley Tamton.

Audiences can see Rainbow Valley this November 8 to 10 and 15 through 17 in Charlottetown at The Guild. Shows begin at 7:30 pm for evening performances and at 2 pm for the Saturday afternoon matinees. Tickets will soon be available online at or in person at The Guild. This is a family friendly show. Contact The Guild box office for ticket details.
