Confederation Centre programs

Family Sundays

The Confederation Centre Art Gallery in Charlottetown is inviting Island families to gather the kids for Sundays filled with art exploration. These are taking place the last Sunday of every month from January 27 to April 28, with new themes every month based on the Gallery’s exhibitions. The first event in January takes inspiration from Halifax-based artist Mitchell Wiebe’s exhibition (VampSites). There will be a scavenger hunt through the techni-colour whimsical artworks and then people will be given drawing materials to create portal designs and characters based on their dreams. Plus, each month there will be light refreshments, thanks to the support of Friends of Confederation Centre of the Arts. The following months include colour collages based the Gallery’s Sandra Meigs’s The Basement Paintings exhibition, weaving for the Who’s Your Mother? works and, origami based on nature. To learn more about Family Sundays, contact Kate Sharpley at This email address is being protected from spambots. Mental health resources at home

Mental health resources for children and youth are helping Island families from the comfort of their own homes. The online programming and telehealth services of the Strongest Families partnership have no wait times and fit families’ schedules, eliminating the need to travel, take time off work or school, or change normal routines. Over the past year, they have helped more than 130 families with children and youth ages 3 to 17 who experience behaviour, anxiety, and/or nighttime bedwetting problems. Families can be referred to the Strongest Families programs through their primary care provider or community mental health services by calling 1-866-833-5443. There are currently three programs offered: Behaviour program (for ages 3 to 12); Anxiety program (for ages 6 to 17); Nighttime bedwetting (for ages 5 to 12). Participants receive written materials and skill-demonstration videos (via handbooks or delivered by smart-website technology) as well as weekly telephone support from a coach. On PEI, the program represents an investment of $100,000 annually, funded from within Health PEI’s Mental Health and Addictions division. www.healthpei.ca/mentalhealthwww.strongestfamilies.com
