Well-known illustrator Dušan Petričić, along with author Cary Fagan, visited Charlottetown in Nov as part of an initiative that sees 1500 books handed out to Island Grade One students. TD Grade One Book Giveaway Program is an annual initiative, supported by the Public Library Service and the Canadian Children’s Book Centre. The program is intended to encourage literacy for young children and also brings great Canadian books to Canadian children, to promote a love of reading and a passion for books. This fall, Grade One children nation-wide will take home Mr. Zinger’s Hat (Le chapeau de M. Zinger), written by Cary Fagan and published by Tundra Books. The story, complemented by the imaginative illustrations of artist Dušan Petričić, is for young readers who enjoy spinning their own stories. It is available to students in both official languages.
