Singing To Myself scheduled for AMI-TV

Sophie MacLean in Singing to MyselfIsland-made feature film, Singing To Myself, will broadcast nationally on AMI-TV. Also known as the Accessible Media Inc. network, AMI is a Canadian specialty channel that broadcasts programming for those who are visually or hearing impaired, providing described video and closing captioning for all content. The film will air on December 1, with three more broadcasts to be announced.

Written and directed by Harmony Wagner and produced by Charlottetown’s Periscope Pictures, the film was shot on location in PEI with an all-Island cast and crew in 2016.

Sophie MacLean stars as a young deaf woman who gives up on trying to connect with the world and instead tries to seek happiness in her own silent solitude.  Things don’t go exactly to plan when she meets a beguiling musician played by Bryde MacLean.

“We were able to make the film due to the 1KWave Award, but it never would have made it to TV without the support of Cultural Strategy launched by the province last year. This program allowed us to provide the network with what they needed to broadcast it nationally,” says Wagner.

The film will also screen as the gala film at the Bluenose Ability Film Festival in Halifax on December 1 and at the Metro Cinema in Edmonton on December 8.
