Island folk music group Fiddlers’ Sons are celebrating twenty years as a band with the release of a new album this summer. Fiddlers’ Sons The Best Of Twenty Years 1997–2017 is a collection of the band’s most popular requests from their seven recordings together. They also topped off the 22 tracks on the album with 3 new songs.
The songs were compiled and the new cuts were recorded by Jon Matthews at his Sound Mill Studio in Emyvale. The musicianship of current Fiddlers’ Sons members Eddy Quinn, John B Webster, Courtney Hogan-Chandler and Keelin Wedge is featured on the newest tracks, while past Fiddlers’ Sons alumni Garth Matthews, Sheila MacKenzie. Cynthia MacLeod, and Maria (McDougall) Bartlett contribute on earlier recordings selected.
The band will officially launch the new CD Thursday July 6 at 8 pm at Kaylee Hall, Pooles Corner during opening night of the Close To The Ground Concert Series. It will be a special double CD launch concert series kick off as they partner with band member Keelin Wedge who is set to release her new album The Traditional Files that night as well.
The new Fiddlers’ Sons album will be available where the band plays across PEI this summer. Copies will also be available at The East Point Lighthouse, Back Alley Music, Stewart and Beck's in Montague, Cardigan Garage, In Good Taste Gift Shop Queen St Charlottetown, PEI Preserve Company New Glasgow, Seagulls Nest Gift Shop North Rustico, and other places local music is sold.
