Prince Edward Island’s music industry has been growing steadily thanks to training, marketing, networking, and export programming offered through Music PEI. From September 24–26, the organization is hosting Showcase PEI 2018, a conference focused on connecting musicians to export and international performance opportunities. The Government of Canada understands the wide reaching economic benefits of supporting new market development and strategic investments in culture-based entrepreneurs and businesses.

Sean Casey, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard and Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), along with the Honourable Chris Palmer, Prince Edward Island Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, announced more than $337,000 in support for Music PEI’s 2018 programming.

Through its Business Development Program, ACOA is providing a non-repayable contribution of $108,060 to support Music PEI’s diverse activities over the current year. The Government of PEI is also contributing $229,000 through Innovation PEI.

This membership-driven industry organization provides support for business and marketing plan development; contractual and legal agreements; marketing activities; market development, including tour and showcase support; professional development; and, export development. Music PEI programs include the Provincial Investment Program, the New Business Growth Program, the Golden Ticket Program, two annual conferences, and facilitated participation in international showcases.

These investments build on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy. The strategy focuses on building a strong culture of innovation by supporting creative and entrepreneurial people, and exploring opportunity for export growth. The support being provided to Music PEI also addresses the Atlantic Growth Strategy's goal to enhance the region's capacity to develop, deploy and retain a skilled workforce by addressing emerging labour market needs.
