Music PEI Canadian Songwriter Challenge

Music PEI and ECMA 2019 have announced a partnership bringing together the Music PEI Canadian Song Conference and ECMA Industry Conference to present a songwriting stream at ECMA 2019 in Charlottetown, PEI from May 1-5, 2019.

Pop-Up Supper Club

A group of young local chefs have put their creative minds together to start a Pop-Up Supper Club named "Local." The group hosted a 5-course tasting menu on December 10, showcasing Island ingredients and supporting Island non-profit organizations. The chefs have teamed up with the PEI Farm Centre in Charlottetown to host the dinners.

Pottery in the Park

The winter session of pottery classes at the PEI Potters Studio in Victoria Park, Charlottetown will begin in January. Perfect for beginners as well as those with previous experience, classes are taught by professional Island potters and are designed to be fun as well as educational. The class covers the basics of clay preparation, wheel-throwing techniques, and glazing and decoration.

Sunday life drawing sessions

Sunday life drawing sessions with live nude model are held Sundays from 2–4 pm at the Gertrude Cotton Art Centre, Stratford (57 Bunbury Rd). All skill levels are welcome. Easels are provided but bring your own drawing materials. Age 18+ or parent’s permission. 

Provincial Art Bank

Island artists are encouraged to submit their work to the Provincial Art Bank by January 2, 2019 if they would like it to be considered for purchase next year.  

The Provincial Art Bank collection includes 230 works of art by 130 Island artists. The art bank acquires, loans and displays art that was purchased or donated. Pieces are displayed in public buildings and spaces for Islanders

Salt Spring National Art Prize invites Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada to submit their two- and three-dimensional work for consideration.

Submissions for the 2019/2020 SSNAP awards begin on January 10, 2019 and close May 31, 2019. Approximately 50 finalists will be selected by an independent jury from across Canada to participate in the Finalists’ Exhibition on Salt Spring

Ye olde reviewer last visited The Guild to watch a musical based on an Anne of Green Gables novel, so it neatly bookends the month to be back there a week later watching a show built around Anne’s fellow enduring PEI theatrical staple (not to mention her occasional artistic re-interpreter), the redoubtable Rob MacDonald.
