March 1–2 & 8–10
The Harbourfront Players perform Rumors by Neil Simon on March 1, 2, 8, and 9 at 7:30 pm and on March 10 at 2 pm on the Harbourfront Theatre stage in Summerside. The production is directed by Marlane O’Brien.
At a large, tastefully-appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, four couples are about to attend a gathering for 10th anniversary party of the Deputy Mayor of New York, and his wife. Their host, the Deputy Mayor, has just “accidentally” shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, the injury leaves the host bleeding in a spare room with his wife nowhere in sight. The Deputy Mayor’s lawyer and his wife are on the scene and hurry to get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. Confusions and mis-communications mount as the other couples arrive, and the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity with more gunshot, rumors of domestic upheaval, and police showing up at the house.
While this play is a farce, there are mature themes and occasional off-colour language. The show is not recommended for small children. It is rated PG13 and parents should use discretion.
