The Rolston String Quartet is bringing a storm of classical music to The Mack this February with Sobeys LIVE @ the Centre. After playing sold-out shows across the world, this Canadian group is presenting a performance in PEI.
The group was formed more than five years ago and is made up former students of The Glenn Gould School in Toronto. They’ve been featured on CBC’s 2016 list of hot Canadian classical musicians under 30 and have received the prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award from Chamber Music America, just to name a couple of their accomplishments.
“All of this has been exhilarating and it’s been a dream come true,” says Jonathan Lo, the cellist with the Quartet. “It’s something we couldn’t have imagined when we first got together and we’re blessed to continue performing together.”
This past December the Quartet played a sold-out show at Carnegie Hall in New York City and are performing at London’s Wigmore Hall in 2019. They’ll also be recording their first album in January.
“It should be an interesting mix of music, including a program bookended by classics,” adds Lo. “Plus, we’ll be performing Murray Schafer’s “Waves,” which is perfect for the Maritimes. It’s very evocative of the sights and sounds of the area.”
The Rolston String Quartet performs at the Mack in Charlottetown on February 21 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available at the door, at Confederation Centre's box office, online at confederationcentre.com, or via phone at 902-566-1267 or 1-800-565-0278.
