St. Dunstan’s Basilica
Church of St. Simon and St. Jude
Local and off-Island musicians will play at St. Dunstan’s Basilica in Charlottetown and the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude in Tignish this summer with a recital series featuring organists, vocalists and instrumentalists.
Heading the series is Basilica organist Leo Marchildon performing on the 1882 Louis Mitchell Tracker pipe organ in Tignish on July 17 at 7 pm. On July 18, the Basilica welcomes John Fraser Jull, who will perform on its four-manual Casavant organ at 1 pm.
From then on, artists will perform at
both locations, with Tuesday concerts starting at 7 pm in Tignish and the Charlottetown location on Wednesdays at 1 pm.
The next three weeks feature vocalists Robyn Perry (soprano) July 24 and 25, Andrea Corder (soprano) with Jack Fear (guitar) on July 31 and August 1, and mezzo Sylvia Mutch on August 7 and 8. Each of these vocal recitals will be accompanied by Leo Marchildon and include an organ masterwork .
The following concerts will be devoted to the pipe organ starting August 14 and 15 with local organist Don Fraser, (Trinity United Church). On August 21 and 22 New Hampshire organist George Bozeman visits us, while Montreal organist Philip Crozier performs August 28 and 29. The final performances on September 4 and 5 features Montreal saxophonist Sophie Decourval and organist Jacques Boucher.
Admission to all events is by free-will offering.
