Acadian dinner theatre in Abram Village

Wednesdays & Thursdays
July 4–August 29
Acadian Musical Village

Cast of Pi la mère marmotte, seated: Anne-Marie Poulin, Ryan Rix, standing: Stéphane Bouchard, Paula Arsenault, Nicole RichardThis summer’s V’nez veiller Acadian dinner-theatre will overflow with misunderstandings, scoldings, dead-end and budding romances, along with lots of laughs, music and a four-course meal.

Local playwright-director Raymond J. Arsenault is serving up his usual in-your-face brand of comedy in the year’s French-language play, Pi la mère marmotte (And the mother scolds).

Relationships are never easy—especially when both partners don’t want the same thing. And of course, relationships are particularly hilarious in dinner-theatre shows such as this one. Here is what we are dealing with:

An overprotective, overbearing mother, Agnès (Nicole Richard), is turning 70 but still dotes on her nerdy and spineless 30-year-old son Melvin (Ryan Rix), who is living in her basement.

Melvin has a girlfriend, named Stéphanie (Anne-Marie Poulin) whom Agnès despises. Stéphanie wants to get married and start a family. But Melvin freaks out at the mention of marriage and children.

Stéphanie’s ex-boyfriend Brad (Stéphane Bouchard), who’s now a super-cool, charming and handsome actor, pops up out of the blue.

Stéphanie’s hippy-dippy friend Soleil (Paula Arsenault), just back from a trip to Mexico, drops in with a risky plan to help Stéphanie pick the right man.

Fiddlers Janelle Arsenault (from 112 Accords) and Louise Arsenault (Barachois, Gadelle, Les Girls) will perform during the musical portion of the three-act show.

Acadian Musical Village in Abram-Village every Wednesday and Thursday at 6:30 pm July 4 to August 29 (no show July 5 and August 15). Tickets must be reserved in advance by calling 854-3300.

An English dinner theatre production, Major Manor Mayhem, also by Raymond J. Arsenault, will be performed on Tuesdays beginning on July 3.
