Anya Smith is a musician, vocalist, composer and performer from Murray River, PEI. Growing up in a musical family, she began writing her own material at the age of 17. Anya’s evolving style, influenced by musicians such as Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks and Norah Jones, is a blend of inspired lyrics, stirring melodies and guitar work occasionally juxtaposed against melancholic subtleties. The resulting body of work is reminiscent of the genres Indie Folk and Jazz. In 2013 she released her first EP The Sparrow and has been a participating artist in the Always on Stage program, featuring local talent on the outdoor stage along Victoria Row in Charlottetown. Anya entered her single "I'm Staying Up" in CBC Music’s Searchlight competition in 2017. Anya’s song-writing is heavily inspired by her love of nature. A Holland College student, just back from a stint in Toronto, Anya will perform at The Eagle Nest for the first time on March 23.
