Leo Steven, Health PEI board chair, has announced that 2 board positions will become open on March 31, 2013 as the 3-year terms come to an end for the original Health PEI board members appointed in 2010. Applicants should plan to devote 2 days each month to meetings and preparation; there are monthly full-board meetings, subcommittee meetings that are called as needed, and periodic planning sessions

Bat WNS Confirmed

Diagnostic tests conducted by the Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre at the Atlantic Veterinary College confirm the presence of bat white-nose syndrome (WNS) in PEI’s bat population. The public is asked to report any observations of bats to the Forests, Fish and Wildlife Division at 368-4683 or Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre at 628-4314.

The P.E.I. Writers’ Guild will accept submissions to the 2013 Cox & Palmer Island Literary Awards until May 31 at 4 pm.

Lands Protection Act Commissioner Seeks Feedback

Commissioner, Horace Carver Q.C., has been directed to inquire into and report on the adequacy of land holding limits, options for reducing red tape and other matters related to the Lands Protection Act. Mr. Carver began work early in January and will travel across the province over the next several months to hear from the public. His final report will be presented to Government by June 30, 2013.
