Bat WNS Confirmed

Diagnostic tests conducted by the Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre at the Atlantic Veterinary College confirm the presence of bat white-nose syndrome (WNS) in PEI’s bat population. The public is asked to report any observations of bats to the Forests, Fish and Wildlife Division at 368-4683 or Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre at 628-4314.

Submit to Island Literary Awards

The P.E.I. Writers’ Guild will accept submissions to the 2013 Cox & Palmer Island Literary Awards until May 31 at 4 pm.

Lands Protection Act Commissioner Seeks Feedback

Commissioner, Horace Carver Q.C., has been directed to inquire into and report on the adequacy of land holding limits, options for reducing red tape and other matters related to the Lands Protection Act. Mr. Carver began work early in January and will travel across the province over the next several months to hear from the public. His final report will be presented to Government by June 30, 2013.

Taking Care—Caregiver Seminars

Starting April 8, a series of 6 workshops, developed by Ruth Anne Wicher, Lunenburg, will provide info for those who are, or will be, facing the issues relating to caring for elders in our community. Topics are: Caregiving Relationships, The Process of Aging, Fall Prevention and Accessibility Issues, Community Resources, Nursing Home and Retirement Care, Stress Relief for Caregivers (Compassion Fatigue).

April 21 to 27 marks the 71st annual National Volunteer Week which pays tribute to volunteers who graciously donate their time and energy to Canadian communities. Hospice PEI will host the 11th Annual Hike for Hospice May 5 in Alberton, Summerside, Stratford and Souris as a kick off Hospice Week May 5–11. Locations/ times are:

Atlantic Voices Choral Composition Contest

Atlantic Voices: The Newfoundland and Labrador Choir of Ottawa is a mixed-voice (SATB) community choir that sings music from and about Atlantic Canada.
