Acadian Museum of P.E.I.

Hooked Rugs by Island Acadians: Keeping the Tradition Alive (to Oct 31), curated by Hélène Bergeron, features 76 hooked rugs ranging from traditional to modern designs and hooked by 21 various Island Acadian artisans. Also on display are photos of the artisans and the stories of their rugs, as told in their own words. The exhibition’s large variety of rugs offers a kaleidoscope of colours and designs, a veritable feast for the eyes. Also on view are the permanent exhibition and the video The Island Acadians: The Story of a People; and the Galerie Claude-Picard of six large paintings depicting the adoption of the Acadian flag and national anthem in Miscouche in 1884. Acadian genealogy and archives available to researchers. A gift shop with a selection of Acadian books, in French and in English, and also CDs of Acadian music, Acadian flags, and souvenirs. Confederation Centre Art Gallery

Cornwall Library Art Gallery

Gallery jewellery designer Melissa Murphy Desrochers recently presented Kelly Ripa with an original designer piece of her work. The gallery features her unique pieces in sterling, some of which incorporate labradorite in the settings. The gallery now features a large collection of designer and fashion jewelry—from funky and artistic to more classical pieces. Local, regional and international designer works are exhibited. Eptek Art & Culture Centre

The summer exhibit, Sincere in their Religion: Island Churches in the Community, Countryside, and Controversy, continues. Religious artefacts from the PEI Museum provide an opportunity for interpretation of the diversity, architecture, and social importance of religion in Island life over the years. There are intriguing and beautiful items throughout the display. A gift shop is also located on site, stocked with local art and Island fine crafts as well as Island books. Drop by Sept 26 for a free Culture Days activity. Join local artist Marie Lyon 1–4 pm to create your own paper collage. All ages and skill levels are welcome. No art experience required. The See Food Exhibit continues this month at Gallery 33 in Summerside. A number of Island artists are exhibiting paintings on the theme of that necessity of life, food. Shakin’ Out The Mats, Island Matters rug hooking exhibit, runs to Sept 4. Howes Hall Gallery

Howes Hall artists Betty Jenkins, Mary Ploughman Jones, Linda Shaw Packard, Janet Mays, Margaret Muzika and Mary Roscoe Murphy Robertson exhibit acrylic, watercolour and mixed media paintings, hooked mats, and a selection of the artists’ cards, unframed matted work, calendars and magnets. MUSEartspace

MUSEartspace is a new art gallery, lounge, store and artist workshop in a bright open concept studio naturally lit by a wall of windows. The Studio Gallery

Walker Studios

The studio/gallery features the work of master goldsmith Jeanette Walker, and partner, visual artist Lindsay Walker. Jeanette specializes in custom wedding and commitment bands in gold or platinum. Lindsay welcomes commissions and portraits in oil paint. Walker Studios is a member of The Atlantic ÉCONOMUSÉE Network of Artisans at Work, part of the International ECONOMUSEUM Network Society.
