A Canadian Spectacle Under the Stars in Charlottetown
A new outdoor multimedia experience has been unveiled in downtown Charlottetown this summer. The show, Signatures—A Canadian Spectacle Under the Stars, is being presented by Discover Charlottetown, Confederation Centre of the Arts, and Graphics eMotion in celebration of Canada 150. The organizers invited Canadians from across the country to help choose the show’s closing song and offered those who voted a chance to win a getaway to the Island’s capital.
The organization set up an online poll to gather input from Canadians in all ten provinces and three territories on what song(s) should close out the 30-minute sound and light spectacle. The catch? It needed to be a singalong.
The poll included over 25 well-known songs by Canadians spanning more than 5 decades. Voters could also suggest other song choices through the poll.
Signatures—A Canadian Spectacle Under the Stars will be projected on the Confederation Centre’s sandstone walls nightly until October 1. It will be free for public viewing And, of course, it will offer the opportunity for Canadians to share their singing voices. To encourage people to fill out the singalong poll, Discover Charlottetown offered all voters the chance to win a three-night dream getaway to the Birthplace of Confederation this summer. The prize package included $750 in travel bucks, 3 nights accommodation in Charlottetown, tickets to the live shows at Confederation Centre of the Arts, $200 dining gift card and more.
Currently a number of iconic Canadian songs play in rotation after the main production and the nightly audiences are invited to join in singing along as the lyrics and a bouncing maple leaf play across the screen. Chandler, an Island singer-songwriter, will use her experience as a choir director to inspire audience members to sing along to some of Canada’s most beloved songs.
