Thérèse D'Amour exhibit opening at Gallery 18
Gallery 18 in New London has announced an exhibition and sale of original works by the late Prince Edward Island artist Thérèse D'Amour. The show, featuring watercolors and oil paintings from the artist's estate, is titled, Thérèse D'Amour – A Passion for Nature.
Thérèse was born on August 20, 1921, in Matapedia, Quebec. She studied Bioengineering – earning both a B.Sc. and a Masters degree. However, from an early age she also maintained a passion for art. Writing in 1992, Thérèse said as a child her “favorite game was drawing.” In primary and secondary schools she received “an introduction to the use of charcoal, pastel, watercolor and oil.” Although mainly self-taught, she would later attend workshops with artists including Molly Lamb Bobak.
Thérèse was a studio painter best known for landscapes, which will be well represented in the exhibition and sale at Gallery 18. The show will open in May and continue throughout the 2017 season.
Thérèse D'Amour died in O'Leary, PEI, on December 23, 2013, at the age of 92.
