Island A Cappella at Carrefour Theatre
Island A Cappella, PEI’s women’s barbershop chorus, invites Islanders to join them in a stroll down musical memory lane as it presents Decades of Song on April 30, at 2:30 pm at the Carrefour Theatre in Charlottetown.
This year’s show will take a page from the musical song books of the 20s all the way to hits from Broadway’s Momma Mia—with plenty of stops in between.
“Thanks to a super successful recruitment drive last fall, our chorus has now grown to almost 50 members,” says Chorus Director, Carolyn Prime.
The show will also include performances by two barbershop quartets from within the chorus: Retake and Sequence. Special guests will be students from Reel Talent School of Dance and Celtic harpist and singer, Lana (Donnelly) Quinn.
CBC PEI radio Host and News Editor Angela Walker will MC the show which is being held to raise funds in support of the chorus’ expenses when members travel this June to compete in the annual regional barbershop competition being held in Sackville, New Brunswick. A portion of the show’s proceeds will be donated to the Treble Tremors music therapy program provided by the PEI branch of Parkinson Canada, under the direction of Singing Sands Music Therapy.
